Houston Falls to Texas Tech 84-60

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team fell 84-60 at Texas Tech on Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas. Chyanne Butler led the Cougars with 16 points, while Brianne Coffman scored a career-best 13.
Defense was the story in the first quarter, as the two teams combined to score just 25 points. On Houston's end they forced the Lady Raiders to commit seven turnovers through the first 10 minutes. On the offensive end, junior guard Chyanne Butler provided the spark for the Cougars, scoring six of her 16 points in the first frame.
Texas Tech was able to extend their lead in the second quarter, after shooting 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the field. However junior Brianne Coffman and freshman Jasmyne Harris kept Houston in the game with five points apiece. Coffman and Harris were each 2-of-3 from the field in the quarter.
Despite the score, the Cougars showed life in the fourth quarter, clamping down on defense and playing Texas Tech to an 18-18 tie in the frame. On the offensive end, Houston shot 51.7 percent in the second half.

TURNING POINT
Texas Tech was able to use a pair of runs to extend the lead throughout the game. In the first quarter, with the scored tied at eight, the Lady Raiders ended the frame on a 7-2 run to take a 15-10 lead into the first break. Then to start the third, Tech opened the second half on a 9-4 run to extend the lead to 45-28.
TOP PERFORMERS
Houston: The Cougars had three player reach double figures in scoring, including Butler's team-best 16 points. Coffman added a career-high 13 points, while Harris scored 14. Sophomore Serithia Hawkins led the Cougars on the glass with five rebounds.
Texas Tech: The Lady Raiders had five scorers reach double figures including 16 from Jada Terry. Ivonne Cook-Taylor and Arella Guirantes each added 12, while Grayson Bright and Recee Caldwell had 10 apiece. Terry completed her double-double after pulling down a game-high 10 boards to lead Texas Tech.

- For the seventh time in eight games the Cougars picked up tremendous production from their bench, outscoring the Lady Raiders 38-31.
