Cougars Release 2016-17 Schedule

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar Track & Field Teams and Head Coach Leroy Burrell are excited to announce, the 2016-17 indoor and outdoor competition schedules, which features seven home meets as well as the American Outdoor Championships in May.
For the ninth straight season the Cougars will open indoor in College Station, Texas, when they head to Texas A&M's Reveille Invitational on Dec. 10. Houston will have over a month off before hosting its first meet, the Leonard Hilton Invitational, on Jan. 13. The Cougars will follow with the Mark Colligan Memorial in Lincoln, Neb., before finishing the month of January with their 2-day home meet, the Houston Invitational on Jan. 27-28.
February begins with a trip back to College Station to compete in the 2-day Aggie Invitational on Feb. 3-4. The following week, Houston splits up across the country for multiple events. Some Cougars will host the Howie Ryan Invitational inside Yeoman Fieldhouse on Feb. 10, while the remainder will split between the Tyson Invitational (Fayetteville, Ark.) and the Don Kirby Invitational (Albuquerque, N.M.), with the distance team heading to the Husky Classic in Seattle.
Postseason for the indoor slate begins Feb. 24-25 with The American Indoor Championships, where the Cougar men look to defend their back-to-back conference championships in Birmingham, Ala. The NCAA Championships follows two weeks later on March 10-11 in College Station.
The outdoor slate kicks off with the Cougars' first home meet, the Cougar Spring Break Invitational at the Carl Lewis Complex on March 16. Houston rounds out March with a pair of meets in the Lone Star State, competing in the Victor Lopez Invitational at Rice before heading to the prestigious Texas Relays on March 29-April 1 in Austin, Texas.
Houston opens April hosting the Houston Alumni Invitational on April 8, and the following week the Cougars will head west to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. SAC Invitational. A return trip to Rice for the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational highlights the following week, before the Cougars split up again the following week, heading to historic Franklin Field for the Penn Relays on April 27-29 and the Longhorn Invitational in Austin on April 28-29.
Houston's final test before the outdoor postseason begins will be the Tom Tellez Invitational on May 5, on their home track. The following week the Cougars host The American Outdoor Championships for the first time, with the men looking to defend their 2016 crown.
The NCAA West Preliminary Round will return to Austin, Texas May 25-27, with the NCAA Outdoor Championships following on June 7-10 at Hayward Field, in Eugene, Ore.
