Seven Cougars Advance to Big 12 Track & Field Championship Finals

Houston men in seventh place with 12 points after first day
LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Houston Track & Field program earned one second place finish while seven Cougars qualified to finals on the first day of competition at the Big 12 Championship inside the Sports Performance Arena.

Junior Antrea Mita and senior Turey Stoudemire scored 10 points for the Cougars in the men's high jump. Mita earned second place with a season best mark of 2.22m while Stoudemire finished seventh overall with a mark of 2.08m.

Sophomore Evina Panagiotou scored one point for the women's side with an eighth place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 4.05m.

Redshirt sophomore Ty Lott added a pair of points for the Cougar men with his seventh place finish in the weight throw landing the weight at 20.33m.

The men's distance medley relay of freshman Zac Miller, sophomore King Taylor, sophomore Shawn Freeman and sophomore Remay Abraha took home fifth place with a time of 9:42.78 for the third fastest time in program history.Â

HEADED TO FINALS
Seven Cougars secured spots in the men's mile, women's and men's 60-meter hurdles, men's 60-meter, men's 400-meter and men's 200-meter finals scheduled for Saturday.Â

Miller finished fourth overall in the men's mile with a time of 4:04.79. The men's mile is scheduled for 2:50 p.m.

Senior Kaycee McCoy and Miracle Thompson qualified to the women's 60-meter hurdles final set to take place at 2 p.m., with their respective times of 8.25 and 8.39.Â

In the men's 60-meter hurdles, graduate Jamar Marshall Jr. won his heat with a time of 7.64, the third fastest time of the day. The race is set for 2:10 p.m.

Senior Louie Hinchliffe competed in his first 60-meter race since the 2024 Big 12 Indoor Championship. Hinchliffe qualified for finals with a time of 6.62, 0.02 shy of his personal best. The men's 60-meter is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Graduate Trey East III ran a lifetime best of 45.77 to secure his spot in the men's 400-meter final scheduled for 3:40 p.m. His time of 45.77 is the third fastest time in school history and first sub-46 time in program history since 2019.

Freshman Dominic Harper earned his spot in the men's 200-meter final with a time of 20.88. Harper is scheduled to face at 4:40 p.m.

The Cougars conclude action at the Big 12 Championship beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday with the heptathlon. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., followed by running events at 2 p.m.
