Madison, Wis. â€" The No. 44 Houston Cougar women's tennis team hits the road for the third weekend in a row, traveling to Madison, Wis., to take on the Wisconsin Badgers Friday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. The Coogs will then travel to Chicago, Ill., where they will face No. 41 DePaul on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
The Cougars are looking to bounce back from a tough loss to No. 19 Pepperdine in the consolation round of the ITA Kick-off Weekend in Fort Worth, Texas on Jan. 23.
No. 34 Despoina Vogasari began last weekend's competition by securing a point in singles for the Cougars against No. 22 TCU. Despite a tough fight, Vogasari fell to Pepperdine's No. 14 Luisa Stefani the following day. The Cougars also found themselves fighting ITA ranked Pepperdine duos across all three doubles courts. While Pepperdine ultimately won the doubles point, it was not without a fight. Vogasari and Rupert were tied 6-6 against No. 18 Matea Cutura and Christine Maddox when the doubles competition was completed.
This weekend will be the first appearance this spring for the 2016 Wisconsin Badgers' tennis team. While the Badgers remain unranked as a team, Lauren Chypyha jumped 59 spots in singles rankings to begin the spring season ranked No. 66 in the ITA polls. Chypyha finished the fall season with a record of 16-3 and advanced to the semifinals at the ITA Midwest Regional meet.
DePaul traveled to Atlanta, Ga., for the ITA Kick-off Weekend, where they fell to No. 21 LSU 4-0. The Blue Demons were then defeated by No. 46 William & Mary 4-2 in the consolation round. The powerful doubles team of No. 37 Rebeca Mitrea and Yuliya Shupenia contributed to securing a point for DePaul by defeating their William & Mary counterparts 6-1.
