Lexington, Ky. â€" The Houston Cougar track and field team wrapped a successful weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational after posting 15 personal records on the second day of the meet on Saturday, in Lexington, Ky.
The Houston sprinters stole the show on Saturday in Kentucky, landing two athletes each in the finals of the men's 60 meter hurdles and 60 meter dash. Senior hurdler Issac Williams ran 7.90 to finish fourth in the 60 hurdles, while freshman Amere Lattin ran right on his heels finishing fifth in 8.00.
Cameron Burrell, fresh off a world-leading performance in the 60 last weekend, picked up where he left off by placing second in the event in 6.60. LeShon Collins ran 6.76 to take eighth in the race.
Tori Williams wrapped up a strong weekend with a 10th place finish in the 60 running 7.55. Williams coupled that with a sixth place 24.16 in the 200 meter dash that she posted on Friday.
Sophomore distance runner Ebony White landed Houston its fifth, top-10 finish of the day while competing in the 800 meters. White clocked 2:12.32 to finish seventh,
The Cougars' fifth and final top-10 finish of the day came from a familiar face who has yet to see any action in the indoor season. After a lengthy cross country season that saw Brian Barraza claim the NCAA South Central Regional Championship, the junior did not disappoint in opening the 2016 indoor season with an 8:08.15 to finish sixth in the 3K.
NATIONALLY RANKED SIGNING CLASS
The Cougars made noise throughout the entire offseason when the men's signing class was ranked as the No. 2 class in the nation by Flotrack last July. The current freshmen on campus are led by three incoming student-athletes on the MileSplit All-American team. Marcus McWilliams (110m hurdles), Gerald Mills (200m) and John Lewis III (100m) all earned All-America honors, while distance runner Jahnavi Schneider was named as the No. 3 cross country recruit in the state of Texas by TxRunning.com.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
Houston returns home to host the Houston Invitational Jan 29-30 at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on campus. The two-day meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., on Friday and 9 a.m., on Saturday.
