HOUSTON HEAD COACH Ronald Hughey
Opening Statement
"Well, this one is really tough to swallow. We take the lead at the beginning, and go for three quarters of the game and lose it in the last minute or two just because you didn't box out. We gave up second chance points and turned the ball over the last three or four minutes of the game. This one is tough to swallow."
"Chyanne is an elite player. She transferred and has been sitting out. It's taking her some time to get her movement back and you could see a little bit more every game. Scoring the basketball is something that she can do. She has really good court vision, and now we've got to get her to get more people involved and be able to pass that fire on to some other people on the team so we can continue to grow, but she's going to be really good, and as long as she continues to grow, work hard, and bring a little bit more in practice."
On what was learned from this game
"I'm trying to learn too. That's the one thing about it, because I just had a conversation with them, and the one thing we wanted to do was control the paint, not give up second chance points, and rebound the basketball. Our post did a good job: our guards didn't. We allowed some guards to come in and get some offensive and defensive rebounds. It's a tough one to swallow. We will get back to work and bring the same energy and intensity when we travel to East Carolina. With every knock down we get back up and continue to fight."
On the next game
"They're a very good team, especially at home. Athletic, older team. They always have junior college players, so it should be a good match up. They're going to show us multiple defenses and play a little 1-3-1, or 1-2-2. They have some kids that are really aggressive, and they're really good at home. It's going to be a challenge but nothing we can't handle if we play Cougar basketball."
