Soccer to Face First Conference Road Tests

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's soccer hits the road for the first time during American Athletic Conference play when they travel to Memphis, Tenn., and Tulsa, Okla., for a pair of weekend road matches.
The Cougars meet the Memphis Tigers on Thursday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m., before heading back west to face off against the RV Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Sunday, Oct. 4 beginning at 1 p.m.
Houston dropped a pair of American Athletic Conference Matches on opening weekend, falling to East Carolina 2-0 on Sept. 24, before dropping a 1-0 decision at home against Cincinnati on Sept. 27. Tulsa and Memphis played to a scoreless draw against each other in the two squads' conference openers.
ABOUT THE TIGERS
Memphis enters the weekend with a 5-3-2 overall record and a 0-0-1 mark in American Athletic Conference Play after their draw with the Golden Hurricane on Sept. 24. The Tigers defeated Gonzaga 1-0 in non-conference action on Sept. 26.
Valerie Sanderson leads Memphis in a slew of offensive categories including goals (4), assists (2), points (10), shots (31), and shots-on-goal (15). Maryse Bard-Martel has logged every minute in goal for the Tigers through 10 games, and has compiled a .690 (29-42) save percentage. All five wins for Bard-Martel have come via the shutout in 2015.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
Tulsa holds a 9-1-1 overall record and a 0-0-1 conference mark and is receiving votes in the NSCAA weekly poll. The Golden Hurricane opened the season with eight straight wins before dropping a road match to in-state rival Oklahoma 2-1 on Sept. 18. Tulsa had held teams scoreless for six straight matches leading into the contest with the Sooners.
Rachel Thun and Christina Holmes lead Tulsa offensively with Thun having the most assists (7) and points (13), while Holmes leads the squad in goals (5) on just 12 shots. Tulsa has split time between sophomore keepers Rebecca Defer and Courtney McKeon, with Defer collecting a 5-0-0 record while McKeon sits at 4-1-1. The two have combined for a 0.36 goals-against-average and an .867 save percentage.
