SKILLMAN, N.J. - University of Houston junior Despoina Vogasari was selected to the 2015 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced today. Vogasari will begin the tournament in the Qualifying Round, which begins Oct. 6, and the event runs through Oct. 11 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
The Athens, Greece, native took part in the All-American Championships for the first time in 2014, winning a pair of matches. Vogasari defeated Maureen Slattery of Denver in her opening match, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 and downed No. 53 Sophie Watts of Fresno State in her second contest, 2-6, 7-6(9), 6-2.
Vogasari used her success in California as a springboard to a record-setting 2014-15 season. She finished the year 30-9 in singles play and was ranked No. 61 in the final ITA singles poll. Vogasari was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and was selected for the NCAA Singles Championship at the end of the season.
Vogasari is one of just three American Athletic Conference singles players selected for the event and the only one who will start in the Qualifying Round. She enters the 2015-16 season with a 40-10 (.800) career dual record, the highest mark in Houston history.
