Volleyball Caps Preseason with Red & White Scrimmage

HOUSTON â€" Houston Volleyball hosted it's annual Red and White Day beginning with a clinic for children and an intrasquad scrimmage to cap it off.
The Cougars played two sets and the teams split the match 1-1. The scrimmage served as a closing to preseason training camp and a way for the coaching staff to see how the players reacted in real game situations.
"It's always nice to get the players into a playing environment and real game situations instead of just the drills we run in practice," Assistant Coach Ron Arenz said. "It's a great opportunity to get them playing in front of fans since they're preparing for the season. It gives us the opportunity to see younger players in action."
All 15 players saw action on the court including the five newcomers.
"Our newcomers handle the emotional environment well. We are excited to see them really develop and earn playing time," Assistant Coach Jason Allen said.
Houston Volleyball opens the 2015 season on the road at the Texas Tech Invitational next weekend. The Cougars are set to play Utah State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas Tech over the two-day tournament. The Cougars open the home schedule on Sept. 18-19 when they host Nicholls State, Alabama A&M and Southeastern Louisiana for the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup.
