Houston Tennis Honored as ITA All-Academic Team

SKILLMAN, N.J. â€" The University of Houston Tennis team was selected as a 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team, it was announced Monday. In addition to the team award, student-athletes Maria Cardenas, Charlotte Phillips and Tina Rupert were chosen as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
In addition to their success on the court, the Cougars put forth a tremendous effort in the classroom last season. Houston posted a team grade point average of 3.36 in 2014-15, with seven of the team's eight members posting a GPA over 3.00.
On the court, Houston finished with a 22-6 record and was ranked No. 34 in the final ITA national poll of the season. The Cougars won 18 straight matches from Feb. 20 â€" April 17, which is a program record, and they advanced to the NCAA Championship for the second straight season.
A kinesiology major, Cardenas finished the 2014-15 academic year with a 3.91 GPA. The Caracas, Venezuela, native went 16-12 on the court, ranking fourth on the team in victories. This is her second consecutive ITA Scholar-Athlete honor.
A senior in 2014-15, Phillips graduated in May after posting a 3.59 GPA for the year, including a perfect 4.00 mark in her final semester. On the court, the kinesiology major tallied a 13-6 singles record in her last collegiate season.
Rupert earned All-American Athletic Conference honors after going 13-9 in singles competition, including 6-0 in conference play. A hotel & restaurant management major, Rupert ended the year with a 3.59 GPA to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the second consecutive season.
In order to qualify for ITA All-Academic Team honors, a program must post a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher for the academic year. Individuals must have a GPA of 3.50 or higher to qualify as a Scholar-Athlete.
Overall, this is Houston's seventh ITA All-Academic Team award. The Cougars have been honored in four consecutive seasons.

The Cougars are proud to introduce the Center Court Club, a restricted-giving program that directly impacts the needs of the University of Houston Tennis program. Gifts to the Center Court Club provide financial support directly to the University of Houston Tennis program for needs beyond the program's operating budget. Revenue generated from the Center Court Club is used at the discretion of the Head Coach for program enhancements. Membership in the Center Court Club is annual and requires a minimum $100 gift.

For a minimum gift of $100, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball.
ACE
For a minimum gift of $500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation and a stadium blanket.
US OPEN
For a minimum gift of $1,000, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket and a lesson from the coach.
GRAND SLAM
For a minimum gift of $2,500, supporters receive a team poster and a signed tennis ball, private practice invitation, a stadium blanket, fleece jacket, a lesson from the coach and a group lesson from the coaching staff.
