HOUSTON - After leading Houston Baseball to an American Athletic Conference title and to a Top 20 national ranking, sophomore Andrew Lantrip became the first All-American for the program since 2006 after the right-handed pitcher was named a Third Team All-American by Perfect Game on Tuesday.
Lantrip was instrumental in the pitching staff's success for the Cougars, pacing the team and leading the conference with 115 strikeouts in 113.1 innings pitched. He helped the staff to a 2.89 ERA as Houston finished among the nation's Top 10 in four different pitching categories.
The Livingston, Texas native finished the year with an impressive 9-3 record and was honored for his success, being named an All-Region and All-Conference selection.
Lantrip became the first All-American honoree for Houston since Brad Lincoln was a consensus All-American in 2006 - later being named the National Player of the Year. Lantrip became the 22nd Cougar in program history to be named to an All-America team and first under head coach Todd Whitting.
