McDonald Named Top Defensive Back in Texas by Dave Campbell

HOUSTON - Houston senior safety Adrian McDonald has been named the top defensive back in Texas by Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine in the veteran prognosticator's annual preseason publication released this week.
McDonald, who was also named to Campbell's five-man Texas' College Player of the Year watch list, was joined by linebacker Steven Taylor on Campbell's All-Texas Preseason First Team while safety Trevon Stewart was named to the publication's second team.
Dave Campbell's honor is the latest preseason honor for McDonald who was also named to The American's Preseason First Team by Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

McDonald was named to the 2014 American Athletic Conference First Team after leading the league with eight total turnovers. The Lawton, Okla., native was third in the league with five interceptions and second with three fumble recoveries. The senior finished fifth in the league with three forced fumbles and third on the Houston team with 75 tackles.
Taylor appeared in 12 of the 13 games in 2014 for the Cougars, making 10 starts at outside linebacker. He finished the year as the team's second-leading tackler with 76 stops, including nine tackles for a loss. He also added four sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. The Cedar Hill, Texas, native ranked fourth in The American with three forced fumbles and had three double-digit tackle games in the season.
A 2014 team captain, Stewart finished the year with 56 tackles, including two for a loss, while also tallying three interceptions. A member of the 2014 Jim Thorpe Award Watch List, Stewart is third nationally among active players with 291 career tackles and led the nation with 10 turnovers in 2013 - six fumble recoveries and four interceptions.
