HOUSTON'S LINEUP
Dismuke and associate head coach Ryke Dismuke (no relation) recently announced that seniors Pilgrim and Roman Robledo, juniors Blair Hamilton and Vincent Martino and sophomore Matt Scobie will represent the Cougars at the American Athletic Conference Championships.
For Sunday's First Round, the Cougars will compete in pairings with East Carolina student-athletes and start off No. 1. Scobie will start the day at 7:40 a.m. (CDT) Sunday with Martino (7:48 a.m.), Pilgrim (7:56 a.m.), Robledo (8:04 a.m.) and Hamilton (8:12 a.m.) following.
Robledo begins the homestretch of an outstanding collegiate career that saw him earn PING All-America Second-Team honors as a junior in 2014. The Harlingen, Texas, native ranks fourth in school career history with 142 rounds played and 10.284 strokes and is tied for fourth with five tournament titles.
He stands 10th in Houston career history with a 72.423 scoring average and has been a leader for the Cougars in 2014-15. Robledo is a close second on the team with a 72.34 scoring average and tops the team with 17 rounds of par or better, including eight in the 60s.
Robledo will make his fourth and final appearance at a conference Championships event this week after three consecutive top-5 showings. He tied for fourth at the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships in 2014 and captured the C-USA individual title in 2013. As a freshman in 2012, he tied for fifth after opening with 70-68.
Hamilton has emerged as a leader for the Cougars during his junior season, posting a team-best 72.28 scoring average with 14 rounds of par or better. The Burlington, Ontario, Canada, native earned the first collegiate title of his career at the Border Olympics on March 13-14 and has enjoyed a pair of top-10 showings this season.
This will be the first time that Hamilton has competed at a conference Championships during his career.
Like Robledo, Pilgrim is wrapping his up senior season and has saved his best play of the year for the end. The Colleyville, Texas, native has posted back-to-back top-13 showings in his last two tournaments, including a ninth-place showing at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on April 11-12 for his second top-10 finish of the year.
With his recent play, Pilgrim moved into third with a 73.52 scoring average and 11 rounds of par or better.
This will be his third appearance at a conference Championships during his career. He tied for 19th at the inaugural American Athletic Conference Championships in 2014 and tied for 10th at the 2013 C-USA Championships.
Martino returns to the starting lineup for this weekend's Championships. In his most recent outing, the Southlake, Texas, native tied for 12th at the one-day Reveille Challenge in Bryan, Texas, on April 12 for his third top-20 showing of the season.
This year, Martino has competed in eight tournaments with nine rounds of par or better. He will be making his second appearance at a conference championships after tying for 10th at the 2013 Conference USA Championships.
Scobie has appeared in six tournaments in 2014-15 with five rounds of par or better. He etched his name into the Houston records book with his First-Round performance at the Border Olympics on March 13.
With a career-best 64, Scobie became only the seventh player in school history to shoot 64 or lower. He joined Houston great Ed Fiori as the only players to accomplish the feat in the First Round of any tournament.
This will be the first time that he has competed at the American Athletic Conference Championships during his career.
