HOUSTON - Former SEC Player of the Year and three-time All-American Megan Falcon has been added to the Houston Tennis staff as a volunteer assistant, Head Coach Patrick Sullivan announced on Monday.
Falcon comes to Houston out of LSU, and she is highly-regarded across the nation as one of the sport's top up-and-coming coaches. The 2007 Honda Award finalist will see her first action as a collegiate coach as a member of Sullivan's staff.
"It is a huge bonus for us to be able to add a player and coach of Megan's caliber to our staff," said Sullivan. "She has achieved the highest level of success at every level of tennis and has a great eye for the game."
Falcon played at LSU from 2005-09, where she reached the No. 1 ranking in NCAA singles play. She was selected three times to the All-SEC First Team and was twice a recipient of the ITA Scholar-Athlete award.
Since graduating, Falcon has been involved in numerous roles as both a tennis player and instructor. She recently partnered with future world No. 1 and multiple grand slam champion Su-wei Hsieh to reach the Quarterfinals of the Wimbledon junior championships.
Falcon has competed in the junior U.S. Open, the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. She has victories in the ITF junior circuit over the future top-15 pros Shahar Peer, Shuai Peng and Dominka Cibuldova.
Since graduating, Falcon has played and worked at the Bocage Racquet Club in Baton Rouge, La., for the last three years. She is USPTA Professional 1 Certified and received the 2012 USPTA Southern Rookie of the Year Award. Falcon has coached many of Louisiana's top junior players, of all ages, group and individual, and has successfully prepared them for collegiate-level tennis.
"There is an instant credibility that comes from having personally had the type of success that every member of our team hopes to one day have," said Sullivan. "Even in the short time she has been here, Megan has already been a great example of the attitude and professionalism with which a champion approaches practice and preparation."
Falcon remains an active member of both the Women's Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation. She was a Dean's List student at LSU, where she graduated with a double major in history and international studies.
