AUSTIN - The University of Houston men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up the third day of the 88th Annual Nike Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with some solid field performances, on Friday, in Austin, Texas.
A pair of freshmen burst onto the outdoor scene in a big way on Friday. Thrower Felipe Valencia finished fourth in Section "B" of the shot put with a throw of 17.01m (55-9.75), while jumper Diayja Sheppard leaped 1.71m (5-7.25) to finish seventh in the high jump.
The Cougars also landed a pair of student-athletes in the top-5 of the triple jump event in seniors Brittany Kinney, on the women's side, and David Brown for the men. Kinney leapt 12.42m (40-9.0) to finish third in Section "B" while Brown set a new Houston personal record with a fourth place 15.04m (49-4.25).
Due to the proximity of Austin to the campus of Texas State in San Marcos, the Cougars also had student-athletes compete in the Bobcat Invitational. Six of the seven distance runners set new personal records in the 1500m run while Damon Thompson placed fifth with a big personal record of 58.99m in the hammer throw.
