HOUSTON - Junior hurdler Issac Williams and sophomore sprinter Cameron Burrell have earned the right to compete for the University of Houston at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 13 and Saturday March 14 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Williams will compete in the 60m hurdles while Burrell was scheduled to compete in the 60m dash, but was scratched from the race due to injury sustained earlier in the year. The duo earned the qualifying spots by finishing the indoor season by each having one of the top-16 times in their respective events this season.
Williams holds the third best time in the NCAA this season at 7.72, which was a new school record in the 60m hurdles. The Willingboro, N.J., native has entered the 60m hurdles in six meets this season, winning five, including at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in New York, N.Y.
Williams will make his first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships, while his teammate Burrell qualified for the second consecutive year in the 60m dash.
Burrell ran the 12th fastest time in the nation in the 60m dash, running 6.60 at the prestigious Tyson Invitational last month in Fayetteville, Ark. Burrell would go on to win the event and finished first in each of the 60m dash competitions he entered during the indoor season.
Action at the NCAA Indoor Championships is scheduled to begin with the heptathlon events at 10 a.m., on Friday, March 13. Williams is scheduled to be in action for the semifinal round of the 60m hurdles at 6:45 p.m., Friday with the final round taking place at 6:30 p.m. the following day on March 14.
