Day 4
Vogasari Punches Ticket to Texas Regional Semifinals

WACO, Texas - University of Houston Tennis junior Despoina Vogasari notched two more victories Sunday at the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships. With the wins, Vogasari is now just two victories away from repeating as Texas Regional Singles Champion.
Because of persistent rain throughout the state of Texas, the tournament moved indoors to the Hurd Tennis Center on the Baylor campus for Sunday's action. The change of venue did not phase Vogasari, who picked up a pair of wins over highly regarded opponents.
The 42nd-ranked player in collegiate tennis, Vogasari opened the day in the Round of 16 against Rice's Solomiya Zinko. The first set was extremely tight, with the Houston junior earning a tiebreak victory. But Vogasari put her opponent away in the second set and earned a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory.
After a brief break, Vogasari started her Quarterfinal match against No. 86 Sabrina Federici of Texas Tech. Once again, the first set was close before Vogasari took control in the second set. The Athens, Greece, native punched her ticket to the tournament's final day with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.
With the victories, Vogasari improved her career record to 63-18 overall, and counting last season's title run, she is 10-0 all-time at the Texas Regionals. The win over Federici was Vogasari's 12th career victory over a ranked opponent, and her 2015-16 mark now sits at 8-1.
Vogasari's .778 career winning percentage now ranks second all-time in Houston history. The junior currently sits behind 1985 alum Margaret Redfearn (153-33; .823) and just above 1988 alum Kathy Foxworth (117-34, .775).
