Cougars Head East to Wrap Regular Season

HOUSTON â€" The Houston Cougar women's soccer team heads east for the final weekend of the regular season, where they will face No. 11/12 UConn on Thursday, Oct. 22 in Storrs, Conn., before moving on to Philadelphia, Pa., for a match against Temple on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Thursday's match against the Huskies is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT, while the regular season finale with the Owls will begin at noon.
Houston fell just short of a comeback in its latest action, when the Cougars fell 3-2 to UCF on Sunday, Oct. 18. The Knights took a 2-0 lead midway through the first half only for the Cougars to come roaring back to tie the game at two with five minutes in the half. Senior Lexa Green and freshman Desiree Bowen each had goals for Houston, giving them four apiece on the season. The duo sits tied with sophomore Selena Peters for the team lead in goals this season, while Green leads the team in points with 10.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES
The defending American Athletic Conference Champion UConn Huskies enter Thursday's match with a 14-2-0 overall record and are ranked No. 11 in this week's NSCAA national poll. The Huskies are also slated at No. 12 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com rankings.
Offensively, the Huskies are led by junior forward Rachel Hill, who has scored 10 goals with three assists in 2015 to give her 23 points on the season. In net for UConn is American Athletic Conference Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year Emily Armstrong. The junior has compiled 55 saves on 66 chances and owns a 13-2-0 record this season. Armstrong was named American Keeper of the Week on Oct. 12.
ABOUT THE OWLS
Temple sports a 10-6-1 record heading into the final weekend of the regular season and will host SMU on Thursday, Oct. 22 before the Cougars head to town. Temple started strong with an 8-2-0 non-conference record, but has since gone 2-4-1 after entering The American play.
Freshman Jordan Nash owns a 6-5-1 overall record in goal this season and has stopped 60 of the 72 shots on goal she has faced in 2015. Senior midfielder Kelly Farrell leads an offense that averages more than two goals per match with 11 goals and two assist to give her 24 points.
