Houston Wraps Up Day One of Howie Ryan Invitational

HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar men's and women's track and field teams had 12 athletes qualify for tomorrow's semifinals and turned in a solid showing on day one of the Howie Ryan Invitational, at the Yeoman Fieldhouse, on Friday.
Day one of the invitational consisted of the preliminary rounds of the men's and women's 60m dash, 60m hurdles, and 200m dash along with the finals of the 5000m run, the weight throw and the men's long jump. The first day also included all five events of the women's pentathlon and the first four events of the men's heptathlon.
Houston turned in qualifying times in the 60m dash for all five of its men's sprinters (Leshon Collins, James Arnett, Xavier Floyd, Issac Williams and Curtis Brown) while the women will send three qualifiers (Bria Carter, Kiersten Brewer and Tori Williams) to tomorrow's semifinals.
In the 60m hurdles, the Cougars posted qualifying times for all four of the competitors entered into the event. Issac Williams (7.92) and Jordan Hofbauer (8.30) advanced for the men, while Sade-Mariah Greenidge and Kelsey Roy each posted an 8.73 to earn the chance to compete tomorrow.
Houston picked up an individual win, on a day that did not include many finals, from Emely Morgado in the 5,000 meter run. Competing in her first the 5,000m run the freshman clocked a 19:13.49 and held off Kathleen Hoffman from Incarnate Word by just five one-hundredths of a second to seal the victory.
SENIOR DAY
As part of the Senior Day festivities, Houston will honor its 18 seniors in a special presentation on Saturday at 11 a.m. The presentation will honor the incredible careers of each of the Cougars graduating seniors.
DAY TWO
Day two of the Howie Ryan Invitational is set to begin at 9 a.m., with the women's shot put and will be followed by the resumption of the men's heptathlon with the 60m hurdles at 10 a.m. Running events will start at noon with the semifinals of the women's 60m hurdles. From there the running events will be on a rolling schedule for the remainder of the meet.
