Sprints, Hurdles Impressive in New Mexico

HOUSTON - Sophomore Cameron Burrell ran the fourth fastest 60m dash time in the NCAA, and junior Issac Williams won the 60m hurdles as the Houston Cougar men's and women's track teams hit the road for their first indoor meet outside of the state of Texas, at the University of New Mexico Lobo Collegiate Open in Albuquerque, N.M. on Saturday.
Burrell continued his impressive 2014-15 campaign with yet another win in the 60m dash after running a 6.60 in the event. The victory marked Burrell's third individual championship in the event this season after winning at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational on Dec. 13 and the Houston indoor Opener on Jan. 9. Junior LeShon Collins also continued to impress finishing second in the race with a time of 6.67.
Burrell and Collins would find the podium again later in the day when the duo would finish second and third respectively in the men's 200m dash. Burrell ran a personal record 21.21 and Collins crossed the line in 21.27. The two times were the first and second best times for collegiate athletes in the event.
Williams picked up Houston's first individual victory of the day when he won the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.83. The Willingboro, N.J. native has three win's in the 60m hurdles this season and currently holds the nation's fastest time in the event (7.72).
Overall the Cougars continued to show improvement by picking up 18 new personal records in the open. Samantha Taylor and A'Nease Linnear both bettered their personal marks in the women's shot put with Taylor throwing 15.01m (Second place) and Linnear hitting 14.37m (fourth place).

Houston returns home for its first two-day meet of the season when the Cougars play host to the Howie Ryan Invitational on January 30-31.
