Houston Topped by TCU in Weekend Kickoff Opener

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Houston tennis team opened the ITA Weekend Kickoff with a loss on Saturday afternoon as they fell to No. 41 TCU, 4-0. The Cougars, ranked No. 35 nationally, are now 1-2 on the season.
The Horned Frogs (2-0) started the day by winning both completed doubles matches. Simona Parajova and Sofiko Kadzhaya won court two from Elena Kordolaimi and Rocio Martin, 6-0. Palina Dubavets and Alexis Pereira followed with a 6-3 win over Maria Cardenas and Charlotte Phillips on court three.
The UH tandem of Despoina Vogasari and Mina Markovic was ahead on the top court when their match was stopped.
TCU won the first three completed singles contests to bring the match to a close. Pereira was the first to finish, with a 6-1, 6-0 fifth flight victory over Cardenas, and Dubavets took down Markovic on court four, 6-3, 6-1. Seda Arantekin won the clinching point, 6-3, 6-1, over Phillips in the sixth flight.
The Cougars were winning all three unfinished singles matches, with No. 21 Vogasari, No. 52 Kordolaimi and Martin all up by a set.

Houston will end the ITA Weekend Kickoff on Sunday, with a 3 pm match against No. 70 North Texas. Live scoring is available for the contest.
