Houston Falls to BYU, 4-3

HOUSTON - The No. 37 University of Houston tennis team was upended by No. 61 Brigham Young University, 4-3, on Monday afternoon at the John E. Hoff Courts. The loss drops Houston to 1-1.
BYU (2-0) started the day by winning the doubles point. Mayci Jones and Toby Miclat won the top flight, 6-0, over Maria Cardenas and Angela Lorenzo. Savanna Ware and Nicolette Tran followed with a 6-4 victory over Mina Markovic and Despoina Vogasari.
The Cougars did earn the doubles win on the third court, with Elena Kordolaimi and Rocio Martin scoring a 6-3 victory over Megan Sheehan-Dizon and Morgan Anderson.
Houston rallied by taking the top two singles courts in dominant fashion. No. 52 Kordolaimi evened the score with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Tran on court two, and No. 21 Vogasari topped Jones in the No. 1 flight, 6-4, 6-3, to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
The next three completed courts went the way of BYU as the road team clinched the win. Ware was the next to earn a point, winning court five from Cardenas, 6-4, 6-4. Anderson topped No. 106 Lorenzo on the sixth court, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, to put the visitors within a point of the victory.
Miclat ensured the BYU win by taking the fourth flight. She topped UH's Markovic, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, to give the road team their fourth point.
Houston did earn a point in the final completed match, on court three, as Martin outlasted Sheehan-Dizon, 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4.

Houston's first spring season road trip begins on Saturday, Jan. 24 when the Cougars face TCU as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend event in College Station, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 9 am CT.
