Swimming and Diving Kicks Off 2014-15 Season

HOUSTON - The University of Houston swimming and diving team beings its 2014-15 season this weekend with the annual Red and White Meet beginning at 1:30 p.m. inside the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
For second year head swimming coach Rich Murphy, this weekend's meet will be a great opportunity to evaluate his team.
"We're excited to kick off the season with our annual Red and White Meet," Murphy said. "This is a good opportunity to see where they're at, in terms of their summer preparation and how that translates to the fall. It gives us an opportunity to see our freshman in the water for the firs time."
The Cougars are returning 15 letterwinners from last year's team and welcome four talented newcomers to strengthen the squad. Houston enters their second season in the American Athletic Conference after a great finish in the inaugural conference season.
The divers return team MVP junior Danielle Shedd and the American Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Diver, senior Natasha Burgess. As well as sophomore Taylor Olanski, who had a successful freshman year finishing 14th at the NCAA Championship, the first Cougar to earn points at the NCAA since Lacey Truelove (2011). The diving team is under the direction Yulia Pakhalina, who was named the American Diving Coach of the Year.
"We're very excited for what this year is going to bring. There is a lot of strong team bonds we've been building and working on. We are also excited to welcome our fans back to the CWRC."
Admission and parking for this weekend's meet is free to all fans.
