Cougars Ready For The American Play

HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar soccer team will play host to in-state rival SMU to open up American Athletic Conference play on Thursday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., at Carl Lewis Field.
Houston finished non-conference with a 1-2-4 overall record and is currently riding a streak of three consecutive 1-1, double-overtime draws against Houston Baptist, Utah State and Louisiana-Lafayette.
Junior midfielder Lexa Green leads the Cougar offense with five points (two goals and one assist) while senior forward Kayla Walker is tied with Green for the team lead in goals and owns the team's game-winning goal.
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown played every second of the non-conference schedule logging 710 minutes and compiling 34 saves on 44 chances. Brown is currently first in the American Athletic Conference with 4.86 saves per games.
ABOUT SMU
SMU enters the conference portion of its schedule with a 4-5-0 record after splitting its most recent weekend action with TCU (L, 4-1) and Gonzaga (W, 2-1 OT).
Freshman forward Lauren Guerra leads the Mustangs with three goals and six points, and has driven home two of the team's four game winning goals in 2014. Junior Lissi Lonsberry has seen the majority of time in goal for SMU this season. After beginning her career as a midfielder/forward, Lonsberry made the move to goal and has compiled 25 saves in 38 chances while earning a 4-3 record with two shutouts.
