HOUSTON - Houston Softball earned three All-Conference selections announced by the league office on Wednesday evening during the first annual American Athletic Conference Awards Dinner. Diedre and Haley Outon both earned first team distinction for Houston with Selena Hernandez earning second team honors.
Haley hit her way to a conference best 15 home runs and 53 RBI to earn her third-straight first team all-conference award. Haley also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, was named to the American Honor Roll four times and named the league's Player of the Week (Feb. 24). She is the fourth Cougar to earn three first-team accolades in her career.
Diedre Outon served as Houston's ace pitcher this season throwing to a team best 15-9 record and 2.70 ERA. She was named to the first team as a UTL/P position earning an 8-3 record during conference play. Diedre hit a pair of home runs in the same game to help her earn one of those conference wins against Louisville. The senior was in the circle and pitched a complete game against No. 4/5 Michigan to help Houston earn its highest-ranked win in program history. The Pflugerville native was named to the American Honor Roll distinction twice (Feb. 17, March 31) this season.
Sophomore Selena Hernandez was named the league's second-team shortstop after turning in a strong first year with the Cougars. The Austin, Texas native led the league in scoring (46) and was third in RBIs (37). She started all 52 games and played every inning of shortstop helping Houston rank No. 9 in double plays per game. The sure-handed fielder set a UH record with 156 assists this year and provided pop with in the lineup as she hit the second most home runs (7) and RBIs for the Cougars.
