Three Cougars post multi-hit games; Houston snaps 11-game losing skid
A hot start at the plate for both teams quickly turned into a pitchers duel after the opening frame. The Cougars (18-21, 1-11 Big 12) scored a season-best six runs in the first inning, leading the Islanders (10-26, 4-8 Southland), 6-1, before both teams held each other scoreless for the remainder of the game.

- Makenna Mitchell: 2-3, 2 RBI, R, 2B, BB
- Ariel Redmond: 2-4, RBI, R
- Hailey Gore: 2-4, R
- Houston jumps back into the win column, snapping an 11-game losing streak this season while improving to 19-10 all-time against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
- The Cougars have beaten the Islanders for the first time on the road since 2014.
- Six runs marks the most scored for Houston in a first inning through 39 games this season.
- Junior Makenna Mitchell produced her 21st career multi-hit and multi-RBI performance, notching a pair of hits and RBIs on the day.
- Sophomore Ariel Redmond recorded her 10th multi-hit game of the season and 15th of her career with two hits.
- Freshman Hailey Gore made her second-consecutive start at third base, notching her second and third hit in three days with a pair of singles on the day.
- Senior Nicole Bodeux earned her third win of the season, producing 3.0 relief innings while giving up no hits and striking out two on the day.
- Junior Gigi Solis earned her first career save, spinning 3.0 relief innings while only giving up one hit.
1st | After sophomore Madox Mitchael produced a leadoff single in the infield, junior Makenna Mitchell put Houston on the board early with an RBI double to right field to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. A double to left center from Senior Mandy Esman supplied a second run, scoring Mitchell from second to double Houston's lead. In the next at bat, sophomore Ariel Redmond tallied a single to center, plating Esman to make it 3-0 Cougars. After freshman Hailey Gore stole second, a throwing error in the infield opened the door for Redmond to reach home four Houston's fourth run of the inning. A bases loaded walk in Mitchael's second at bat of the first inning scored Gore before Mitchell's second hit of the day made it 6-0 Houston at the end of the first.
UP NEXT
Houston remains on the road for Big 12 play where it will face Baylor on April 2-4 with game one set for 6:30 p.m., Thursday. All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
