HOUSTON - As it prepares to play host to defending national champion Louisville, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program will celebrate Coach Guy V. Lewis Night on Wednesday night inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Cougars square off against the Cardinals at 8 p.m., Wednesday in an American Athletic Conference game presented by Memorial Hermann. Coach Lewis will be recognized around 7:40 p.m., Wednesday, for the first time on his recent induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on the court that bears his name. He will be joined by his family and many of his former players.
Houston enters this week's game on the heels of a tough 93-70 loss at Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. Against the Scarlet Knights, junior forward TaShawn Thomas posted 19 points with 12 rebounds for his team-leading ninth double-double of the season and was one of four Cougars to score double digits.
Senior guard Brandon Morris posted 13 points, including two 3-pointers, with four rebounds, and sophomore guards Danuel House and L.J. Rose poured in 11 points apiece in the loss.
This season, Thomas leads the Cougars with 15.9 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. He is the only player to rank among The American's top-7 leaders in both scoring and rebounding. He also ranks among the nation's top-15 leaders in field goal percentage and blocks per game.
House ranks second on the team with 12.8 points and 5.4 points per game, while Rose ranks second in the league with 4.9 assists per game.
This will be the first meeting against the Cardinals inside Hofheinz Pavilion since a 70-67 win on Jan. 5, 2005.
