HOUSTON - The University of Houston Track and Field program and head coach Leroy Burrell have announced their competition schedule for the upcoming 2014-15 indoor and outdoor seasons.
"We are really looking forward to the 2015 season," Burrell said. "We have a talented group of athletes, and our competition schedule gives our program a unique opportunity to compete locally in front of our fans, friends and family as well as compete in some of the best meets nationally with the ultimate goal of preparing for the post season.
The Cougars will compete in 23 collegiate meets and travel to nine different states including Texas, California, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Oregon, New Mexico, Arkansas, Indiana and New York for the upcoming season.
Houston kicks off the indoor season with its only meet in 2014, in College Station, Texas at the TAMU Reveille Invitational on Dec. 13. The Cougars will then host a pair of back-to-back meets with the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 9 and the Leonard Hilton Memorial on Jan. 16 at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.
The Cougars hit the road for their first road meet of 2015 when they head to Albuquerque, N.M. for the New Mexico Cherry & Silver Invitational. Houston will spend seven of the final eight weeks of the Indoor slate on the road culminating in the American Athletic Conference Championships at The Armory in New York, N.Y., and the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Outdoor schedule opens up with five straight meets inside the Lone Star State as the team splits up and competes in the TSU Relays on the campus of Texas Southern and the UTSA Meet in San Antonio. The Cougars then head to the Texas Relays in Austin on March 25-28 and begin April at the Rice Victor Lopez Invitational on April 3-4, before heading back to Austin for the Texas Invitational on April 11.
The Cougars will then compete in two of the nation's more prestigious meets, the Mt. SAC Invitational in Walnut, Calif., on April 17-18 and the Penn Relays the following weekend on April 23-25 in Philadelphia, Penn.
Postseason competition for the outdoor season will begin with the American Athletic Conference Championships in Storrs, Conn., May 14-17, the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Austin, Texas on May 28-30, and the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13.
