PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior guard Jessieka Palmer has been named to the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Honor Roll for the week of Nov. 17-23, the league office announced today. Palmer is the first Cougar women's basketball player to win an individual award from The American.
Palmer was Houston's top performer last week, averaging 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 55.6% from the field. On Nov. 17 against Incarnate Word, the La Marque, Texas native scored 12 points, including the game-tying field goal with :07 left in the second half, and she grabbed eight rebounds.
The junior had a career night on Nov. 21 in a 68-66 road win at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. She scored a personal-high 20 points, snagged four rebounds and dished a pair of assists. Palmer was 9-for-15 from the floor and scored 12 of Houston's final 17 points, carrying the Cougars to their second road win of the season.
"Jessieka was an integral part of a total team victory on Friday night," said head coach Ronald Hughey. "Our entire team played very well on Friday, and I'm proud that one of our student-athletes could be recognized for a complete effort from our entire squad."
