Head Coach Tony Levine
Opening Statement
"We had meetings at practice Sunday evening, and our young men have a great attitude coming off of a disappointing loss. Right now, after five games, no one in our program anticipated us being here in terms of a win-loss record.
The kids are resilient. We've got a great attitude within our program right now; staff and student-athletes. We put that game in the rearview mirror and look ahead. We've got another great challenge this week heading on the road to play a very good and talented Memphis team. They're 3-2, 1-0 in conference. They had a great win on the road in Cincinnati this past week at their conference opener.
They're really playing great football right now; doing what you need to do to win football games, starting with the turnover margin. They've recovered six fumbles, forced six interceptions. They've only lost two fumbles and only thrown three interceptions. So they're taking care of business in that category.
Offensively, Paxton Lynch is doing a great job. They're balanced; rushing for around 210 yards each game and throwing around 230 yards a game, so they're about 440 total offense per game. They're balanced, Lynch is making great decisions. He's only been sacked five times in five games.
On the defensive side of the ball, they've done this the last couple of years with Coach Odom as a defensive coordinator, they've got to be one of the top-25 defenses, nationally. They've got 12 sacks. They're aggressive. They've got a 3-man front and they like to bring pressure from all over the field.
It'll be a great challenge for us. I've said this before, we've got to prepare and really execute in all three phases to give ourselves a chance to be successful."
