Women's Basketball Opens Practice on Sunday

HOUSTON - As the college basketball season continues to draw closer, the University of Houston Women's Basketball program officially opened the 2014-15 campaign Sunday afternoon with the start of team practice.
Under the leadership of first-year Head Coach Ron Hughey, the Cougars worked out for about three hours inside Hofheinz Pavilion. The team worked out in a variety of individual and group drills with a continuing emphasis on the defense.
"There are limitless possibilities for this team. We have been working on developing the mentality of the team we want to be," Hughey said. "Today was the first day of creating the identity that we want to be known for."

Prior to and following Sunday's workout, Hughey and juniors Marche Amerson and Jessieka Palmer spoke to local members of the media.
Nine lettermen and two starters return for the Cougars in 2014-15. After being hired in mid-April, Hughey and his staff immediately hit the recruiting trail and the hard work paid off with four newcomers joining the program.
The Cougars open the season at 4 p.m., Nov. 9, with an exhibition contest against Huston-Tillotson inside Hofheinz Pavilion. Houston starts the regular season at 7 p.m., Nov. 14 with a road contest at North Texas.

Fans can take the first step toward the 2014-15 Houston Women's Basketball season by placing deposits with the Athletics Ticket Office at UHCougars.com or by clicking here. The deposit is not a fee and will go toward the cost of season tickets.
Under Hughey's leadership, the Cougars will play 11 contests against teams who qualified for NCAA postseason play a year ago with eight of those from American Athletic Conference rivals.
To purchase tickets in person, fans can visit the Athletics Ticket Stadium Office located on the northeast corner of TDECU Stadium, just outside of Gate 1 off Cullen Boulevard. Parking is available in the TDECU Stadium parking garage with the first 30 minutes free of charge. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m., to 5:30 p.m.
All UH main campus students are admitted FREE to regular-season Men's Basketball home games with a valid student ID.
