HOUSTON - Days after breaking the school record, freshman Cameron Burrell received the Male Track Athlete of the Week honor by the American Athletic Conference officials Tuesday morning.
Burrell made his way into the University of Houston Track and Field record books Saturday afternoon when he posted a 6.55 in the men's 60-meter dash at the University of New Mexico's Cherry & Silver Collegiate Invitational.
His time not only broke the school record, it is the fastest in the nation and was a personal best for the Houston native. Sophomore Leshon Collins originally broke the school record just a few weeks ago.
Burrell also helped the Cougars to a Top 25 ranking by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) Tuesday morning as his top time ranked no. 3 in the nation.
Burrell was the Cougars top finisher in the 200m with a time of 21.37, good enough for fifth place at the meet and the fastest time this season by a Cougar.
