Freshman John Leday makes his first catch a memorable one making it a 9-yard touchdown. Fifth different player to score a touchdown tonight, Cougars leading 62-13 and cracked 60-point for the first time since at Tulane in 2011 (73 points).

Justin Hicks punches the ball in from the one-yard line for his first career score. That's the fourth different player to rush for a touchdown tonight. Houston has 329 rushing yards, the most since 302 yards against North Texas in 2012.

Houston defense holds Southern 4th and 1 and get the ball back their own 42.

Second half is Spencer Time - junior WR just caught his second touchdown pass and third TD of the game...He has scored the last three touchdowns for UH. Great route and even better throw by O'Korn on the fade pattern.

Derrick Mathews forces a fumble and Trevon Stewart scoops it up and takes it to the hhouse for his first career touchdown. But the play is overturned and Southern punts instead.

Tomme Mark registers his first career interception off a Derrick Mathews pass deflection.

Thomas Bates makes a great open-field tackle and strips the ball from the WR while Trevon Stewart recovers the ball. Both are firsts for the defensive backs, UH ball at midfield with 1:02 left in the first.

UH recovers a muffed punt by Southern on the Jaguars' 12-yard line. Three plays later, Deontay Greenberry catches his fourth-career touchdown pass to make it 27-6. That's 10 points off turnovers so far for UH.

Ryan Jackson makes it back-to-back games with two rushing touchdowns as he makes it 20-6...Jackson has looked very impressive so far, great cuts and agility shown.

Southern scores their first points of the game with a 19-yard touchdown catch. Trevor Harris blocks the extra point to make the Cougars lead 13-6.

Richie Leone boots his second career field goal on a 38-yard try to make it 13-0 with 14:03 left in the first half. That caps a 13-play, 69-yard drive taking 3:11 off the clock.

Houston has 109 yards rushing on 12 carries for an average of 9.1 through the first quarter with Jackson (5-52-1 TD) and Farrow (7-45) leading the way.

Southern busts out a double reverse-flea flicker to gain 45 yards but two plays later, Steven Taylor forces his first career fumble and Bamfo recovers his first. Cougars on the march to close out the first quarter.

Richie Leone scores his first career points with a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter. 11-play, 44-yard drive taking 5:09 and Houston has scored on both drives of this game.

With 4:02 left in the first quarter, the Cougars have used their first challenge of the year. Ruling on the field of an incomplete pass is confirmed.

Southern gains a first down but Cougars hold after that...George Bamfo has grabbed three tackles so far.

Ryan Jackson scores the first points of the year on an eight-yard rushing touchdown...Had an amazing run called back that he scored on earlier in the drive that was called back for a clipping call.

Cougars lead 7-0.

Three-and-out for Southern as Zach McMillian makes an open-field tackle on third and long...Larry McDuffey back to return the first punt of the year.

It's Football Time in Houston as the Cougars win the toss and elect to kickoff.

Houston is ready to open up their 68th season of varsity football with an all-time record of 388-341-15. The Cougars record in openers: 34-31-2 and 38-29 in home openers.

Houston is 1-4 all-time at Reliant Stadium with the lone win coming against Rice last year.
