HOUSTON - Preseason training has ended and the University of Houston volleyball team is ready for the 2013 season to kick off when they head to San Marcos, Texas, this weekend for the Delta Zeta Classic hosted by Texas State.
The Cougars will play two matches on Friday facing Quinnipiac University at 9:30 a.m. followed by a match with Lamar at 4 p.m. This will be the first meeting between Houston and Quinnipiac. In 2011, the Cougars swept Lamar in their last meeting (3-0). Houston leads the all-time series 40-21-1 over the Cardinals.
On Saturday, Houston plays host team Texas State at 6:30 p.m. Texas State is strong on both sides of the ball. Houston will have to focus on being disciplined in team systems. Houston last faced the Bobcats in 2009 ending in a 3-1 loss. Houston leads 25-4 in the all-time series records.
SMU will also attend the tournament, but will not play Houston since they are both in The American Athletic Conference.
