HOUSTON - University of Houston Men's Basketball sophomore point guard J.J. Thompson has been granted his release to transfer to another school, head coach James Dickey announced Tuesday afternoon.
Thompson, a native of Irving, Texas, competed in 59 games with 40 starts during his two seasons with the Cougars. He averaged 5.9 points and 1.4 assists per game and dished out 158 assists during that time.
He scored a career-high 16 points against Texas A&M inside Hofheinz Pavilion early in the season and helped lead the Cougars to the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational in March. It was the program's first 20-win season since the 2008-09 campaign.
"We wish J.J. all the best in the future and appreciate his contributions to our program and the University," Dickey said.
