Softball Heads to UTEP

The University of Houston softball team (26-12, 9-3) will travel to El Paso to face UTEP (12-22, 1-10) this weekend in a Conference USA series. Saturday's doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. (CT) with Sunday's showdown getting started at 1 p.m. (CT).
Katie St. Pierre is second in the league (.390) while Holly Anderson (.368) and Haley Outon (.347) are fourth and ninth.
Outon leads Conference USA in home runs (10), walks (33), on base percentage (.511) and slugging percentage (.755).
Bailey Watts leads the way for the Cougars in the circle. In 2013 she has compiled a 14-4 record with a 2.08 earned run average. Watts along with fellow pitcher Diedre Outon (2.70) are each in the top 10 in earned run average in Conference USA.
Junior Kendra Cullum collected two more hit by pitches to bring her season total to a Conference USA leading 20, ranking second in the nation.
Danielle Pearson has thrown 117.1 of UTEP's 229.2 innings in the circle this year. Pearson has compiled a 6-9 record with a 3.46 earned run average. The freshman is holding opponents to just a .257 batting average in 2013.
Erika Arcuri leads the way for UTEP at the plate with a .363 batting average in 102 at bats this season. Junior Alanna Leasau leads the Miners power threat with six home runs and 28 runs batted in.
