HOUSTON - University of Houston Golf fans will want to mark Monday, May 6, on their calendars for the annual return of the Dave Williams Pro-Am presented by Insperity.
This star-filled event tees off at 9 a.m., Monday, May 6, on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club. All proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit the Project 17 - the Houston Golf booster club - and the capital campaign for the Dave Williams Golf Academy at Redstone Golf Club.
For the first time in school history, funds from the Dave Williams Pro-Am will benefit two Houston Golf programs. The Cougars will add Women's Golf during the 2013-14 season with Emily Gilbreth and Kelli Rollo competing as individuals as the first members of the Houston Women's team.
"We look forward to the Dave Williams Pro-Am every year. Through the generous support of our fans and boosters and the entire staff at The Woodlands Country Club, this event has grown each season. It's always fun to play, talk and reminisce with some of the great players who have come through our program. As we prepare to add our Women's Golf program for the upcoming season, an annual event like this is needed now more than ever, and we can't wait to see everyone on May 6."
Teams can purchase a foursome for $5,000, while individuals can play for $1,250 per person. That gives fans the opportunity to play with a Champions Tour professional or Houston Golf legend and includes food, drinks and a tee gift. Space is limited to the first 25 paid teams, so interested fans are encouraged to make their reservations soon.
Registration and breakfast begins at 7 a.m., with the player auction slated to start at 8 a.m. Competition begins at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start.
To make a reservation or for more information, fans should call 713-743-9417. For a registration brochure, fans can click here.
ABOUT DAVE WILLIAMS
The tournament is named after legendary Houston head coach Dave Williams, who led the Cougars to 16 NCAA team national championships from 1962-87. In his brilliant career, Williams guided Houston to 14 conference titles and more than 340 team tournament titles across 24 states and foreign countries.
Known as the "Father of Collegiate Golf", Williams created the scoring system that continues to be used at collegiate events today.
He was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America, Texas Sports and Texas Golf halls of fame as well as the University of Houston Hall of Honor. In addition, the GCAA named its national men's collegiate golf Coach of the Year award in his honor in 1988.
Williams passed away in December 1998.
DAVE WILLIAMS GOLF ACADEMY AT REDSTONE GOLF CLUB
Funds from the Dave Williams Pro-Am will benefit the Houston Golf program as well as the Dave Williams Golf Academy at Redstone Golf Club.
Opening in August 2012, the Dave Williams Golf Academy at Redstone Golf Club makes the Cougars the only school in the state of Texas to enjoy a golf facility/home course that annually hosts a PGA TOUR event.
Located on the Redstone Golf Club Tournament Course driving range, the Academy covers 4,400 square feet and features the latest technology.
It has four indoor/outdoor hitting bays with Launch Monitors to allow student-athletes to practice length, dispersion and trajectories of any shot. A SAM PuttLab takes ultrasound measurements of putting strokes and a 3-dimensional biomechanical measuring system helps refine how a student-athlete's body should move during a swing.
The Academy also has a student-athletes' lounge and a reception area, which proudly showcases the rich history of Houston Golf.
