NEW ORLEANS - Big winners of its last two games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball team wraps up the regular season when it squares off against Tulane at 7 p.m., Saturday, inside Devlin Fieldhouse.
The Cougars enter this weekend's game on the heels of a dominating 84-62 win against Rice on Wednesday evening inside Hofheinz Pavilion. Competing in his final regular-season home game in front of the hometown fans, senior forward Leon Gibson posted 18 points with a team-high 12 rebounds to lead the Cougars.
Houston outrebounded the Owls 44-20, the fewest rebounds by a Cougar opponent since Arkansas State was held to only 16 boards on Dec. 3, 1991.
Sophomore guard Joseph Young led Houston with 20 points against Rice, his fifth consecutive 20-point effort and his team-leading 12th of the season. The Houston native and Yates High product ranks second in Conference USA with 18.0 points per game and trails league leader Maurice Kemp of East Carolina by fewer than 0.5 points per game.
Sophomore forward TaShawn Thomas ranks second on the team with 17.0 points per game and paces the team with 9.8 rebounds per contest. Looking to become the first Cougar in a decade to average a double-double for a season, the Killeen, Texas, native is one of only two players to be ranked among the C-USA top-four leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
Freshman forward Danuel House stands third on the team with 12.5 points per game and ranks among the C-USA freshman leaders in several categories, including scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage, steals and assists.
