HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team hosts UCF in a Conference USA matchup this weekend at Cougar Softball Stadium. The doubleheader on Saturday starts at 1 p.m. with Houston-area legend Roger Clemens set to throw out the first pitch. The first 50 fans who attend will autographed memorabilia from the Houston-area legend. Sunday's finale starts at noon.
The Cougars swept Southern Miss to begin league action last weekend with 7-0, 5-3 and 10-2 (6) wins over the Golden Eagles. Houston now ranks second as a team in batting average (.279) with five Cougars (Holly Anderson, Haley Outon, Katie St. Pierre, Reina Gaber and Kayla Holland) ranking in top 20, the most of any team.
Pitcher Bailey Watts has gone the distance for the win in her last three appearances including once against both Purdue and Southern Miss. The junior is sporting a 2.01 ERA with a team-leading seven wins (7-2).
Preseason All-Conference selection Mackenzie Audas leads UCF in the pitching circle with a 6-7 record and 3.21 ERA.
The Knights are 1-4 over their last five games with the most recent being a win over Liberty. UCF was swept by to UAB and No 15 Michigan and a win over Liberty.
UCF was picked to finish third in C-USA as Houston and Tulsa counted down the top two spots.
