LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After competing in the Inaugural American Athletic Conference Championship, No. 10 Houston Soccer saw its 2013 season come to a close after falling 6-0 in the First Round to No. 7 Memphis on Friday evening in Louisville, Ky at Cardinal Park.
The loss wrapped up the year for the Cougars, who finished with a record of 1-12-3, while Memphis improved to 12-7 with the shutout to move on to Quarterfinal play on Sunday.
A five-goal second half surge lifted the Lady Tigers over the Cougars in what proved to be an evenly matched game following the opening 45 minutes of play.
Houston was down 1-0 at the break before Memphis netted two goals during the 51st minute to extend its lead by three. The Lady Tigers went on to add goals in the 58th and 60th minutes, respectively.
Memphis' leading scorer Christabel Oduro had a stellar night, netting four of the Lady Tigers' goals, while contributing with an assist.
Houston fired off four shots, one landing on goal off the foot of sophomore Lexa Green. Senior Kylie Cook and Rebekah Horsey added two shots and one shot, respectively to the offense numbers.
Senior keeper Sydney George played her final game as a Cougar, tallying play for all 90 m - collecting three saves.
Memphis keeper Maryse Bard-Martel made one save in goal for the win.
