HOUSTON -- After spending the first six contests on the road, the University of Houston volleyball program will gear up for its 2012 home opener when it welcomes UTSA to the Athletics/Alumni Center for a 7 p.m. match on Friday.

ABOUT HOUSTON
Houston is coming off its first win of 2012, where it defeated tournament-host Lipscomb, 3-1, at the Lipscomb Invitational last Saturday. The Cougars were able to snap a five-game skid that dated back to its season-opener vs. Toledo on Aug. 24. As a team, Houston is hitting .199, led by seniors Katie Norris (93 K, .201%, 44 D), Chandace Tryon (77 K, .397%, 21 B), and Stephanie Nwachukwu (42 K, .120%, 9 B). Setter Abby Simmons paces the offense with 221 assists, 9.61/set. She has also chipped in defensively with 52 digs and 11 total blocks, while sophomore libero Natalie Keck leads the team in digs with 87.
ABOUT UTSA
UTSA is coming into Friday's contest riding a three-game win streak with two wins over Belmont and one over UTEP. The Roadrunners played its last win to five sets, winning 3-2 at the UTSA Classic in San Antonio. McKenzie Adams leads the team with 100 kills, while Annie Kunes paces the defense with 119 digs. As a team, UTSA is hitting .217 and has notched 98 block assists.
PLATT NOTCHES 500TH CAREER WIN
Head Coach Kaddie Platt earned her 500th career win at Lipscomb on Sept. 1, 2012. The win was ironically her first win at the helm of the Cougars. Her overall career record now is 500-162 in her 18th year of head coaching, formerly at her alma mater, Houston Baptist for the previous 17 seasons.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM HONOREES
Houston has had representatives on the All-Tournament team in its first two weekends out. Norris has been named to the team both at Ohio State's tournament and Lipscomb's Invitational, while teammate Tryon joined her at Lipscomb.
RETURN OF THE FLO HYMAN COLLEGIATE CUP
Houston will host the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup for the second straight year in the Athletics/Alumni Center. The tournament will be held on Sept. 14-15, hosting Pepperdine, Florida State and Ohio State.
