Preview: Baseball Hosts McNeese to Wrap Up Home Slate

HOUSTON--Looking to snap its four-game skid, the University of Houston baseball team will wrap up its home slate with a Tuesday contest against McNeese State at 6:30 p.m. at Cougar Field.
Houston is coming off of four straight losses last week to all Top 25 teams including a midweek fall to No. 21 Baylor and three losses to No. 17 UCF to drop its overall record to 10-16.
A LOOK AT HOUSTON
Leading the way offensively for Houston is junior Chase Jensen with a .309 clip, a team-best 30 hits, 21 RBI and .412 slugging percentage. Hitting well in just seven starts is senior Codey Morehouse with a .385 average, while Jonathan Davis, in limited action, is hitting .333. Sophomore Landon Appling and junior Jacob Lueneburg follow with .273 and .272 averages, respectively.
As a team, Houston is hitting .261 with 225 hits, 37 for doubles. The team owns a .348 on-base percentage with 93 walks and 26 hit-by-pitches.
ON THE BUMP FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars will start freshman right-hander Aaron Garza on Tuesday vs. McNeese State.

Garza is coming off a 14-5 loss to No. 21 Baylor last Tuesday where the Galveston, Texas native struck out four, but allowed five runs on four hits in 3.1 innings of work.
A LOOK AT MCNEESE STATE
McNeese State enters the Tuesday contest with an overall record of 11-14 and is 5-8 on the road. The Cowboys are coming off a series fall to Texas State, but rebounded to earn a 5-3 win on Sunday vs. the Bobcats. Leading the way at the plate for McNeese is Seth Granger with a .340 clip, a team-best 34 hits, while Renny Weber follows with a .306 average and 13 walks.
As a team, McNeese is hitting .259 and has belted 13 home runs and scored 109 runs. The Cowboys have a .344 on-base percentage with 81 walks and 29 hit-by-pitches and are 28-of-37 in stolen bases.
McNeese is led in ERA by left-handed pitcher Trey McGee's 1.42 ERA and 1-0 record. In two starts and three appearances, McGee has pitched 6.1 innings with six strikeouts. Michael Clemens leads the team with 12 appearances and a team-high four saves. In 30.0 innings pitched, Clemens has fanned 33.
HISTORY vs MCNEESE STATE
Houston will meet McNeese State for the 56th time in school history on Tuesday. The Cougars currently own the all-time record at 42-13, dating back to a double-header in 1971. The two teams met twice last season, splitting the games. Houston fell 10-2 at home on March 8, while the Cougars evened the season series with a road win (14-11) on March 16. Houston is 35-8 vs. McNeese State at Cougar Field.

The Cougars will travel to Greenville, North Carolina for a three-game series with East Carolina, beginning Thursday at 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET). The series will continue on Friday at 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET) and wrap up on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT (10 a.m. ET).
