Fayetteville, Ark. - Three University of Houston track and field athletes were unable to improve their marks at the Arkansas Last Chance Meet in Fayetteville, Ark., on Friday.
Isaiah Sweeney, who was entered in the long jump and the 60m dash, placed fifth in the long jump and did not compete in the 60m dash due to a lingering hamstring injury. Sweeney entered the meet ranked 26th in the long jump and needed to post a mark of 25-2.00 or better to qualify for nationals.
Tai'shea Reese, who entered the meet ranked 14th in the women's long jump, was attempting to better her mark of 20-6.25 to solidify a spot at nationals. Reese placed fourth on Friday with her 20-0.50, but her previous mark is still good for 14th nationally. Depending on how meets go this weekend, Reese may have already earned a spot to nationals.
Houston senior hurdler DeMeeka Jones was looking to crack the top-16 in the women's 60m hurdles. Jones needed to improve on her season best mark of 8.38 by .18 seconds to be considered for nationals. She placed fourth in the event, with 8.36 being her best time of the day.
