Women's Tennis Drops Another Thriller to Idaho, 4-3

LAS VEGAS - The University of Houston tennis team dropped its second-straight match in heartbreaking fashion on Friday afternoon, falling to Idaho by a score of 4-3 at Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas. The Cougars fell to 6-5 this season while the Vandals improved to 11-5 overall.

"We've had so many close matches this season where it could've gone either way," head coach John Severance said. "You can either learn from it and get better or go the other route, and I hope that we take responsibility for it and step up our game."

Celia Fraser joined forces with Giorgia Pozzan at the top doubles position in place of an injured Bryony Hunter, and the duo led off play with an 8-4 victory.

After Liselot Koenen and Jo Garvey dropped a tight 8-6 decision at the No. 3 position, Charlotte Phillips and Maja Kazimieruk clinched the opening point with an 8-5 victory over Idaho's Molly Knox and Sophie Vickers at the No. 2 spot.

Kazimieruk put Houston up 2-0 early in the match by routing Alejandra Lozano at the No. 5 position by a score of 6-1, 6-0 to improve to 8-3 this spring.

Idaho then won three-straight matches to even the score and Almudena Sanz clinched the match by outlasting Charlotte Phillips at the No. 2 position by a score of 6-4, 7-6(5).

Fraser rounded out the scoring for Houston with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4) win over Molly Knox at the No. 3 spot to snap a two-match skid and improve to 6-4 this season.

The Cougars are back in action against Kansas at 1 p.m., CT on Saturday in Las Vegas.
