Women's Tennis Blanks Southeastern Louisiana, 7-0

HAMMOND, La. - The University of Houston women's tennis team continued its string of recent dominance, routing Southeastern Louisiana, 7-0, on Friday afternoon in Hammond, La. The Cougars reeled off their fifth-straight win to improve to 5-2 this season.
"Today's play was tough with windy conditions," head coach John Severance said. "The wind makes scores closer but we're happy to come out on top. We now have to focus on our first Conference USA match against Tulane tomorrow and we expect an extremely physical, mental and vocal match."
Houston's top doubles tandem of Bryony Hunter and Giorgia Pozzan opened play with an 8-2 rout over Morgane Charpenne and Morgane Dadot and the Cougar duo of Liselot Koenen and Laura Ring followed with an 8-3 victory over Audrey Chelini and Marion Courbis at the No. 3 spot to clinch the opening point.
Celia Fraser was the first of six Cougars to triumph in singles play, topping Adriana Castillo by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 3 position for the sophomore's fifth-straight victory.
Koenen followed at the No. 5 spot with a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Charpenne to improve to 5-2 this season and put Houston up 3-0 in the match, while Hunter defeated Laura Verges at the No. 2 position by a score of 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Cougars.
Maja Kazimieruk continued to cruise at the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 rout over Isabel Brito and Pozzan followed at the top position with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Chelini to improve to 6-1 this spring.
Charlotte Phillips rounded out the scoring for the Cougars, outlasting Dadot at the No. 4 spot by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 to notch her fourth win of the spring.
The Cougars return to action at 11 a.m., on Saturday to take on Tulane (8-1) in New Orleans.
