HOUSTON - Senior guard Roxana Button has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII women's basketball team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
For the third-straight season, Button has been recognized by CoSIDA for her academic achievements, while earning First Team distinction for the first time in her career.
By earning a spot on the First Team, Button will now be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Button has been the model student-athlete during her time at the University of Houston, graduating in December with a 3.88 GPA in Psychology and a minor in Chemistry. Button plans to attend medical school at the end of the 2011-12 academic year.
The Coppell, Texas, native has shouldered the load for the injury-plagued Cougars this season, leading Conference USA with 18.2 points per game. Button entered the season having scored 20 or more points in only one game and currently leads the league with 10 20-point performances this season.
Button is primed to make history in Thursday's contest against SMU, needing only two points to become the 22nd member of the school's 1,000-point club. Button will also look to compete in her 113th-consecutive game, marking every contest of her career, which ranks seventh all-time at Houston.
Button also ranks third in Houston history in 3-point percentage (.347), fourth in free-throw percentage (.756), sixth in made 3-pointers (116), ninth in minutes played (2,665) and 10th in made free-throws (260).
