HOUSTON - Through the first five races of the Rice-Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Medical Center Fall Invitational, Houston sits in third place with 182 points after hosted at the Rice Aquatics Center.
The host Owls lead with 310 points and TCU trails at 278 points. The University of the Incarnate Word is fourth with 164.
"We had some really good swims today and even a couple best times, which is always a nice surprise this early in the season," head coach Augie Busch said.
"We had some really tough training and weight lifting this week and obviously the weather isn't ideal. We're swimming a little low in the water right today but that's to be expected with all of that. We need to just push through and be tough. This isn't ideal competition weather and we're fighting out there - that's what I want to see."
Senior Reka Kovacs was Houston's top finisher of the day finishing fourth in the 200 IM (2:09.82).
Heather Winn turned in another strong performance by placing fifth (5:06.61) and pacing the 500 free group that saw Kimmy Ballo and Colleen Donovan add top-ten finishes.
