Volleyball To Host Lamar In Final Non-Conference Match

HOUSTON - The University of Houston volleyball team will play host to the Lamar Cardinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Cougars' final non-conference match of the 2011 season.
The Cougars are looking to improve their 6-3 start to the season after knocking off West Virginia and Loyola Marymount last weekend at the UK Invitational.
Tuesday's contest marks the first home match for the Cougars since Aug. 31 when they played an exhibition match against the Israeli National Team. Since that time, Houston traveled to Illinois, going 1-2 at the State Farm Classic, and spent last weekend at the UK Invitational.
The match will be streamed live at UHCougars.com through the All-Access site. In addition, the Gametracker link will be available through the volleyball schedule page.

Through the first nine matches of the season, three Cougars have at least 85 kills. Junior Katie Norris leads the way with 93, while senior Lucy Charuk's .339 hitting percentage is a team-best. Freshmen Caitlin Ogletree and Natalie Keck continue to lead the team with 334 assists and 130 digs, respectively.
ABOUT LAMAR
Lamar enters the week with a 1-10 record after dropping matches to Mississippi State, UTEP and Baylor at their home tournament, MCM Elegante' Invitational.
Sara Whittaker leads the Cardinals with 109 kills and a .265 hitting percentage. Madi Martin and Angel Colyar also pace the team with 227 assists and 112 digs, respectively.
Tuesday's match marks the 62nd overall meeting between the two programs. Houston leads the series 39-21-1 and won the last meeting 3-0 in 2004.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will open Conference USA play Sept. 20 when they travel across town to take on Rice at Tudor Fieldhouse. The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
