HOUSTON - Former Houston women's basketball player Lesslee Mason has signed a professional contract with the Island of Tenerife. With Mason's signing, a trio of Cougars from last season's Conference USA championship squad have inked professional contracts overseas, as Courtney Taylor and Brittney Scott will both play in Spain starting this fall.
Tenerife is the largest and most populated of the seven Canary Islands, which are a Spanish archipelago located just off the northwest coast of Africa.
Mason played an integral part in last season's record-breaking season, averaging 11.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native ranks third in Houston history in career rebounding average (9.0), sixth in blocked shots average (1.5), seventh in blocked shots (93) and 10th in offensive rebounds (231) despite only playing two seasons with the Scarlet and White.
Mason, who started in 62 of 63 career contests at Houston, scored in double digits in 28 games and registered 16-career double-doubles, which ranks 10th in program history.
Mason, Scott and Taylor join Sancho Lyttle as former Cougars now playing in the professional ranks. Lyttle starred at Houston from 2003-05 and was the fifth overall pick of the 2005 WNBA Draft. Lyttle is in her sixth season in the League and is a two-time All-Star selection with the Atlanta Dream.
