HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team competes at the Shirley Crowe Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Turner Stadium in Humble, Texas. The meet features both high school and collegiate student-athletes from around the Houston area.
The competition includes Houston, Houston Baptist, Prairie View, Texas Southern and Southern. The college competition begins Friday at 7:45 p.m. with the 1,500m. Saturday's events begin at 8 a.m. with the hammer throw, and the running events starting with the 4x100m gets underway at 11:30 a.m.
Shirley Crowe is one of the most experienced and venerated officials in the region. Crowe serves as the head official for all University of Houston home meets and the meet is recognizing the hard work and dedication Crowe has given to the sport of track and field.
NCAA RANKINGS
Although it is still early in the outdoor season, a number of Cougars are represented well in the NCAA National Performance Lists, highlighted by the women's 4x100m relay team. The quartet of Tai'shea Reese, Whitney Harris, Kalyn Floyd and Grecia Bolton turned in the second-fastest time this season at 43.85 last weekend at the Victor Lopez Classic.
Harris and Floyd joined with Brittany Wallace and Ciera Johnson to form the sixth-fastest 4x400 relay team, clocking in at 3:37.61.
DeMeeka Jones holds the fifth-fastest mark in the NCAAs this year in the 100m hurdles (13.25). Lamar Delaney is ranked fifth thus far in the men's triple jump (15.50m/50-10.25).
Jonathan Williams rounds out the Cougars represented in the Top-10 with his No. 10 ranked long jump of 7.45m/24-5.5.
UP NEXT
The Cougars have a quick turnaround as they travel to Austin, Texas, for the prestigious Texas Relays starting Wednesday, April 6, and lasting through Saturday, April 9.
